Marketing - All About FocusBy Dave Collins Marketing would appear to be the great buzz word of the decade. Every self-respecting business team talks about it, yet many of us aren't even sure what it is, and even more are uncertain of how they should be doing it. In Marketing -the next level we looked at some of the most important definitions, and pointed out that marketing is simply about bridging the gap between the producer and the consumer. It's not about what you're trying to sell, it's about who you're trying to sell it to, what they want from you, and how to give it them. It really is that simple. This is all very good in theory, but one of the main problems with marketing is that while it makes complete sense when reading about it, applying it to the real world can often prove to be a different matter. One of the simplest and most effective ways to do so is to focus on the consumer. How to attract new customers to your product and website is the constant quandary of many businesses, small or large. But the fact is that no matter what method you use to do so, it's a hard, slow and often expensive process. Logically, we can therefore assume that we should, and indeed must, apply some of our energies to retaining existing customers. The question is why we lose so many potential customers before they've even had a chance to reach for their wallets. There could be many reasons for this. Some may no longer require what you're selling, some may simply forget about you, and inevitably, some may feel (rightly or wrongly) that you don't provide what they need or want. While there is little that you can do if they genuinely have no need for the product or service you're selling, everything else is completely under your control. Why Are You Losing Customers? If, for example, a customer did use your product in the past, but no longer has any need for it, then something must have changed. Is it perhaps new technology that you're not keeping up with, a gap in your product, or incompatibility with other software? Identify what's changed, and if possible, address those needs. If the reason is a competing product, then go after the product's features with a vengeance, and build on them. Don't constrain yourself by only providing the bare basics of what the consumer wants. Give them what they could use, and show them features that they've never even thought of before. While no-one in their right mind goes shopping for a new car based on the stereo and seat linings, the fact is that sometimes these add-ins may prove to be the make-or-break features in choosing their purchase. Throw them in. On the other hand, if the potential customer doesn't even realise what you're offering, then you're doing something very wrong. Have you ever come across a site with the make-or-break fact that persuades you to buy the product, hidden away four clicks into the web site? I certainly have, and it's far from rare. Realistically, chances are that a large number of your website visitors won't go beyond the front page, so don't hide the juicy details buried in the depths of your site. The most important sales facts should be plain to see from the moment your main page loads. A book may not be judged by its cover, but a website certainly is. Catch their attention the moment they arrive, entice them in with tasty titbits, and you've got them. Sell The Benefits, Not Just The Features I've said it many times before, and I'll say it many times yet. You have to sell the benefits of your software, and not just it's features. A long feature list looks great to the person who's thinking about buying the software, but until they realise that they need or want it in the first place, it'll barely even register. Take an imaginary graphics file viewer as an example. If the front page for the product is one long feature list, with an impressive 60+ supported formats on display, that's all very well and good. But will the three-second-a-site visitor be interested? Probably not. They're not looking for what the software is capable of, they're looking for what the software can do for them. If however you sell the fact that the file viewer can SAVE TIME AND MONEY, ALLOW YOU TO ACCESS YOUR COLLEAGUES FILES and VIEW ALL YOUR EMAIL ATTACHMENTS, then you're far more likely to grab their attention. Feature lists are for shareware sites and magazine reviews. People want benefits and solutions. Again, it goes back to the consumer. Once you know what they're looking for, spoon feed it to them in just the right way, with all the information and details they need, and a little bit of icing never goes amiss either. As for the people who click on the features list, chances are that they don't need convincing that they may have a use for the software, they're looking for more reasons to buy it. They're looking for as many facts as possible to satisfy their wallet, boss, spouse or conscience. Give them what they want. And remember not to go for too blatant a sales pitch. People are strange, and although the average person loves to buy things, they hate being sold to! The difference? Make them want what you're selling, don't just shout BUY at them! Satisfy their needs, meet their requirements and show them that you're the answer they're looking for. Never forget that you're not selling to objects. You're selling to people. In order to reach them, you have to start thinking like one of them! Spend time finding out how your existing customers use your software, what made them choose your product, and why they continue to use or enjoy it. See if any patterns emerge, and use this information to focus on your strengths and also your opportunities. Then apply what you've learnt to your product literature, your banner ads, your email signature, your advertising campaigns and above all your website. Be seen, be sold. Okay, it is an advantage to have a web site with good traffic and a program related to the theme of the web site. It is also important to have a large list to which you can recommend your program. However, super affiliates do not get rich for these reasons alone. The main reason super affiliates succeed so well is that they choose to promote programs that have residual or lifetime commissions and NOT commissions for single sales only. What happens in most affiliate programs is that the company which owns the product pays the affiliate for a single sale only. Sometimes, these programs are 2-tier. However, the principle remains the same - one sale, one commission. Therefore, super affiliates choose to promote programs with residual or lifetime commissions. That is, they make a sale of a product which requires constant renewal - such as web hosting every month or a health product for a specific remedy. That way, the affiliate does the work once and gets paid over and over in the future on the basis of that one sale. The best programs are the small number that offer lifetime commissions. These programs allow you to keep the customer for life after you make one sale to that person. So you may sell an ebook in the first instance and the customer comes back in perhaps a year or two and buys something else from the same company. As the customer is "yours", you will get the commisssion. In this way, the residual and lifetime commissions mount up and continue to grow for the same amount of work. Definitely, a case of "work smarter, not harder". Many of these super affiliates could stop work now and continue to earn an income similar to what they are making today on the basis of these residual/lifetime programs. Super affiliates know that to struggle to make one commisssion for one sale is hard work. Shouldn't you join them by promoting programs with residual or lifetime commissions? Traditional advertising are via Television, Cinemas, Newspaper, Popular Magazines, Posters, Radios, Buses, Taxis etc. Online Marketing via the Internet are Banners display, Text links, E-mail, FFA, Classified Ads, Search Engine, Pay Per Click Search Engine etc. In order to understand more about the creature Marketing, it is best for you to start paying attention to the various form of advertisement that surrounds you wherever you are. Keep a little marketing note book with you and write down what attract your attention, why it attract you, how it influence your purchasing decision etc. The concept of Marketing whether Traditional or Online is the same. The challenge of all Online Marketer is to attract as many traffics to their sites as possible via the various means of Online Marketing Method. There are no straight answer to successful marketing and you just have to keep learning and trying until you find a method that is suitable for you. Many says that Banners are lousy and attract little clicks through but why does it still exists today. There are people who are successful in using Banners and those who are unsuccessful. A lots depend on the design of the banners. It is just like posters advertisement where you make used of colors, famous movies star, funny or interesting quote to attract attention. For others, it may be Pay Per Click Search Engine. Pay Per Click Search Engine like Google Ads word provides you a constant flow of traffics if you make used of it wisely. You can start playing with it with an initial registration fees of 5.00. There are smart PPC expert who bids for certain keywords for 10 cents or lower while others bid it for 50 cents or higher. They do it by researching and bidding for less competitive keywords. They bring a constant flow of relevant traffics and sales by studying and researching on how people search. With PPC Search Engine, you don't have to worry about the ever changing Search Engine Ranking algorithm anymore. For example, Assuming you are selling Power Ranger related products, instead of the competitive expensive keywords Power Ranger, you can try different combination of less expensive keywords such as: - power ranger sports - power ranger song - free game power ranger - blue power ranger - power ranger white As you can see, different people can be good at different Marketing method. The Overture inventory has always been a staple source of words and phrases for pay per click (PPC) advertisers and website builders alike, but it suffers from a very big problem – it’s one-dimensional. If you search the inventory for a phrase like ‘used cars’, you will get back lots of results, but they will all contain the seed phrase ‘used cars’. That means it’s up to you to think of all the possible seed phrases that a web surfer might use in a search engine when looking for your product or service. Thinking up seed phrases is not particularly difficult, of course, but can you be sure you'll get all the possibilities? People are very different, and they search in different ways, so it stands to reason that everyone will think of slightly different seed phrases to search on. So what's the answer? Suprisingly perhaps, there is a solution right on your doorstep - your competitors! Websites targeting the same niche as you, that rank highly in the search engines, have not got those rankings by accident - they have already done a lot of keyword research. By examining the keywords used on these sites, most notably in the title, description, and keywords-meta tags, you can find a whole range of new words and phrases related to your topic. The more sites you examine, the wider the range of words you will find. Obviously this takes time (unless you use a utility to do it for you, such as Keyword Spider from http://www.Keyword-Toolkit.com), but it's time well spent because it will put you a step ahead of your competitors. Once you have your new seed keywords, you can plug them into the Overture inventory, or one of the many tools that mine it, and build hundreds or thousands of new phrases. Using this combination technique you will be able to outgun your competitors and find some real hidden gem keywords in the process. About the author: Henry Eldridge-Doyle is an internet marketer, and developer at the keyword research specialist website http://www.Keyword-Toolkit.com Circulated by Article Emporium Posted: Friday 28th January 2005, 10:11 AM Copyright Richard Grady Affiliate programs allow you to refer visitors/subscribers/customers to someone else's website and if your referrals purchase anything, you get a commission. For digital products, this can be as much as 75% of the purchase cost! Used correctly, affiliate programs can be extremely lucrative. Used incorrectly, they will earn you absolutely nothing. I should also add that you don't even need a website to promote affiliate products so they are incredibly flexible. The following tips will help you to use affiliate programs wisely and hopefully, in a way that earns you some money :-) If you plan on placing affiliate links on your website (or in your newsletter), you should only link to products that are relevant to your own content. It is a complete waste of time linking to irrelvant products just because they pay a high affiliate commission. Always try and review the products that you link to before making any sort of recommendation - if the product sucks then this will reflect on you. Don't expect each affiliate link to earn you a fortune within a few weeks. Some affiliate programs won't make you any money at all and it is just a case of testing to see which ones work and which ones don't. Instead of taking the view that you want one program to earn you a thousand dollars a month, aim a little lower - maybe $50 or $100 - but work with several programs. To illustrate this point, I promote a number of affiliate programs and each one earns me between $150 and $1000 a month. Most of the commission payments I receive are for less than $300 a month BUT I receive lots of them. Last month, these 'small' amount added up to over $3,000!! The beauty of affiliate programs is that you don't have to deal with customer enquiries, payment collection, delivery, complaints or any of the administration tasks that go with selling a product - the product owner does all of this for you. Your role is simply to direct traffic to the appropriate site (sure, this is not always an easy thing to do but it does mean that this is the only thing you need to concentrate on). Ok, so what if you don't have a website? No problem! There are numerous ways of advertising your chosen affiliate program without the need for a website or newsletter. For example, it is quite common to set up a pay-per-click advertising campaign with a company such as Google Adwords which links directly through your affiliate link to the main product website. The visitors never even pass through your website and as long as you are earning more in affiliate commissions than you are spending in PPC fees, then this really is money for nothing. From a personal point of view, I have been using affiliate programs to earn money for some time now and I have recently built several small websites specifically to promote affiliate products of one sort or another. I am not looking for these sites to make me huge profits - just a couple of hundred dollars a month each. But remember, this is a couple of hundred dollars EVERY month for doing NOTHING (once the initial site is set up). There are so many advantages to promoting affiliate products, not least the fact that you don't need to create your own product in the first place and there are considerable financial rewards if you get it right. Circulated by Article Emporium Posted: Saturday 15th January 2005, 12:23 PM by: Gobala Krishnan If you're just getting started in Internet Marketing, you may be awed by the amount of "Internet Gurus" out there, all making millions of dollars (or so they claim) and for some reason seem more than willing, for a fee, to teach you their biggest, most intimate secrets. I believe in one thing - If it sounds too good to be true, it most probably is! While I have no doubt on the specialized skills and techniques used by these gurus, it can get way too frustrating simply getting into all their hype, and find almost no value at the end of the day. Hype - that's one thing I agree these guru's are really good at. For some of them, unfortunately, hype is the only thing they're good at. So the question, for those who are trying to master Internet Marketing, might be: 1. Can I learn anything from these gurus without paying money? 2. Who is real and who is not? 3. Whose methods should I follow? Can You Learn Something for Free? Most guru's have opt-in newsletters on specialized subjects like website marketing, Pay-Per-Click, search engine optimization or whatever specialized skill they have "mastered". Almost all of them ask you to subscribe to their newsltetter in return for some kind of "breakthrough" report, and promise to deliver "valuable information" weekly or monthly to your email address. Sound great. Here's what happens 2 weeks later - You realize that the "breakthrough report" is the same old regurgitated information which you can find almost anywhere. You might also relize that the "valuable information" never comes in full, without any hidden agenda. The "valuable information" is actually a soft-selling (sometimes even blatant advertisements) ad for the guru's products, or even worse, some other Internet marketer's products. I'm not trying to shoot down any marketer here, but the irony is in their teaching. Almost all internet gurus would advice you to offer valuable, free information that benefits other people. Profits, as they say, is secondary to actually helping people and making a difference in their lives. What a load of BS. How come they don't practise what they preach? Of is that how the Internet Marketing Game is played? Fortunately, not all guru's are the same. There are still some jewels to be found, and they offer some great information in their newsletters, such as: 1. Vishal Rao: http://www.home-based-business-opportunities.com talks about home based businesses. 2. Mike Cheney: http://www.magnet4web.com talks about building an effective and efficient business web site. 3. Jill Whalen: http://www.highrankings.com talks about Search Engine Optimization. Of course there are more out there, but it is not necessary to subscribe to every Internet Marketing newsletter just to hope for nuggets of gold that may never come. Instead, give the guru a "trial" month, and if you don't find anything of value from them, just unsubscribe. It will only be a loss to them, not you. Who's Real and Who's Not? To answer this question, you really have to "get around" the Internet a lot. Go to forums where you will definately find topics on info-products offered by these gurus, and see what others are saying about them. Forget about all those blaring testimonials that the guru's compile on their site. Forums are where the real testimonials are. You may also want to consider this site: GuruDaq : http://www.gurudaq.com Taking on a Nasdaq-like approach, this site lists all gurus according to ratings and 'stock price'. Although I would advice to take it more as an entertainment that actual recommendations, perhaps this site will allow you to get a glimpse of "who's who" in Internet Marketing. Whose methods should I follow? Honestly, nobody's. At least not word-for-word of what is thought in their newsletters or ebooks. The important thing to realize is that you need to develop your own technique to be really successful. The guru's don't teach you everything, anyway. They almost always feed you the crop but keep the cream for themselves. In other words, no one really tells you the "hot money-making secrets", especially those guru's that have sold their soul a long time ago. Its really up to you to learn some tips and tricks of the trade from them, but set out on your own course. In order to be successful in anything, you need to do your own thing. Be original in you approach, whether it's writing sales letters, doing email marketing, pay-per-click or search engine optimization. Don't look to someone who has sold their soul to lead you to the path of success. That's wishful thinking. Posted: Wednesday 12th January 2005, 1:11 PM Stone Evans http://www.Home-Business.com Did you realize there are only three types of online promotion?... This statement may seem odd and even untrue in your mind, but I am speaking in more general terms than you might be thinking. Let me explain. The three types of promotion are Junk, Active and Passive promotions. JUNK PROMOTIONS ARE MONEY PITS Junk promotions are those that seem to produce results, but by their very nature are really only illusionary promotions. For example, let me begin with FFA (Free For All) pages. You might find yourself subscribing to a submission program that tricks you into believing you are submitting your links to tens of thousands search engines. According to the Open Directory website, they have only approved 1705 search engines and directories for inclusion in their database (http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/). I like using the DMOZ directory as an example because submitted links are tested by human beings with integrity, for the honesty used in site description. Search Engine Watch and other search watchers tend to show fewer than these 1705 engines, primarily because a lot of the engines provide very little value. Yes, you can submit your URL to a FFA page, but FFA’s usually only permit 100 or 1000 links on their page at any one time. So, if ten thousand people are submitting a link to an FFA page on a daily basis, then the average life of your link is between seven minutes and 144 minutes. I suspect the actual number of submitters is much higher and the results are much worse. Given that few people surf FFA pages, the chances of your submission being of any real value is practically nill! Most of the people telling you that you can submit your site to tens of thousands of search engines are truly only submitting your site to FFA pages! Beware of the false promises. Another junk promotion method is Safe Lists. A safe list is a mailing group that is signed up to be received by people who want to submit their own ads. Now, most safe lists have thousands of subscribers who are able to submit their ads daily or weekly. The person signed up to receive the list will receive anywhere from twenty to 140+ messages a day from the list. These messages will be received by people only interested in promoting their own thing who do not have the right motivation to open, let alone read Your Advertising. As a result, thousands of messages go out daily or weekly that will never be seen by anyone but the sender of the ad. Where is the value in that? There is none. ACTIVE PROMOTIONS Active promotions are the type that require you to go out on a daily basis or a weekly basis and put out your advertisements. With active promotions, you will either place your advertising or you will not sell your products or services. Your choice is simple --- work or starve. Examples of active promotions include Pay Per Click Search Engines (PPCSE’s), Direct Email, Ezine Advertising, Solo Ezine Ads, Newsletter Publishing, Ezine Ad Swaps, Classified Ads, Auctions, Site Sponsorship and Banner Ads. Some people are able to utilize these methods very productively, while others are destined to drop their money into the bottomless pit of failed Internet promotions. PASSIVE PROMOTIONS Passive promotions are those promotions that can continue to provide results for you long after you have invested the work to make them available to the Internet community. Examples of passive promotions include: Link Exchanges, Articles, Ebooks, Content Exchanges and Writing Testimonials for others. Let’s look at articles as a solid example of my point. You are reading an article that I have written to promote my own business. This article is timeless and therefore could have been written five years ago and still have been as valuable as it is today. Due to the fact that the article is timeless, it can and will be placed in newsletters/ezines and their accompanying online archives, on websites and in ebooks for many more years to come. As a result, this article will continue to serve me well beyond the time in which I wrote it and submitted it to publishers and webmasters for public consumption and publication. This is the best example I can give you of an excellent passive promotional method. AVOID THE MONEY PITS Many try and even fewer succeed to conquer the Internet and to produce their dreams of online wealth. My hope is that you will be one of the people who conquer the challenges before you and to make a nice living while working online. It will take drive, determination, study plus trial and error, but you can make it work for you. Please continue to educate yourself so that you can avoid the money pits - instead, strive to find the money barrels. It can be done. I am living proof. Part 1 covered the Do’s and this part will cover the Don’ts. * Don’t throw your money away! Unless you have lots to throw away and can afford to buy whatever gets thrown at you. Budget yourself and keep within your budget. Only spend when you need to. You will come across plenty of sites that want you to spend your hard earned money for an internet marketing course, E-book, or piece of software guaranteed to make you money. Don’t fall into the trap. First investigate, ask questions from other marketers to see if they are familiar with the product and recommend it. That’s where the forums come in handy and are beneficial. * Don’t believe all of the hype you will encounter. Example. BUY THIS SOFTWARE NOW! YOU ONLY HAVE TILL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT OR THE PRICE IS GOING TO DOUBLE OR EVEN TRIPLE. YOU’LL SAVE $200.00 IF YOU BUY RIGHT NOW! Don’t believe it, the price will be the same tomorrow and the next. Or here’s another good one. I’m only selling this to the first 50 people who visit my website. Yeah, right. I really believe that one. * Don’t forget you are a potential customer to every marketer out there, so they will try to sell you their service or product to make money. Remember you are now a marketer and your purpose is to sell your service or product to others, not for you to buy theirs. * Don’t get me wrong, some services or products are worth buying. You just have to figure out which are the right ones for you and your business. Remember you’re not trying to line someone else’s pockets. You’re trying to line your own. * Don’t get frustrated and give up because things don’t happen right away. You have to have the mindset that you can do it and succeed. Granted you will have good days and bad days. Every accomplishment is a victory. Every defeat is a learning experience. No business is an overnight success. * Don’t limit yourself and your thinking. Be willing to try different things and when you find the one thing that seems to work, build on it, but keep trying other things as well. * You’ve had your business up and running for a couple of months and you’ve only made one sale. Don’t quit because you think it’s not working. Think in these terms instead. If you’ve made one sale, then you can make 2 sales, and if you can make 2 sales, you can make 3 sales and so on. Many of the top marketers on the internet today took years to find the formula that led to their success. * Don’t believe that there is such a thing as an “auto-pilot” business. Like Ron Popeil’s rotisserie oven, SET IT AND GO. Just doesn’t work that way. I don’t care what you have heard or have read. You have to promote your business. You have to get your name out there and become visible so people can find you and what you’re offering. Just because you now have a website does not mean the masses will come in droves. There are millions upon millions of websites and probably at least a quarter of a million of them are selling the same service or product as you. The question is how are you going to get people to visit your website instead of someone else’s? Once they are there, what’s going to get them to buy from you or join your affiliation? So understand you are going to have to learn how to promote and sell your business and that involves work and time. * Don’t upgrade your affiliation accounts until you can afford to do so. Many affiliate programs will try to pressure you into upgrading to a “Pro” account. Wait until you start making some money from your business first, then upgrade. * Don’t rely solely on emailing to promote your business. Due to major Spam filters your message may not get through. Find all of the different ways to advertise on the internet like writing articles, exchanging links, click/surf exchanges, and Pay Per Click search engines. Use offline ways to advertise your business like newspaper ads, mailings, telemarketing, faxes and flyers. Put your website on a t-shirt and wear it! * Don’t give up, persistence will pay off eventually. Okay, I’ll stop there. I probably could go on and on and even write an E-book about this subject (that’s a thought). I think you get the idea about how to avoid the “Information Overload” headache and hopefully I have given you some substance for thought. The most important point is take one step at a time. Don’t rush it! And remember once a “newbie” always a “newbie” because you will be learning all of the time! Posted: Sunday 9th January 2005, 11:09 AM by: Debra Hamer I, myself, being an internet marketing “newbie” (endearing term used to refer to people who have just started their own internet business and don’t know what the ---- they are doing) have learned a few things and would like to share my observations, tribulations, and triumphs with my fellow “newbies”. In sharing my experiences I hope I can help you avoid some of the pitfalls and obstacles you will face. Let’s try to avoid some of those “Information Overload” headaches as well. I don’t want you to walk through the same mud puddle if I can point it out and help you avoid it. First, in the article which is Part 1, I will list some important “DO’s”. Part 2 will cover the DON’Ts. * Do take your time, one step at a time. Do understand that building your business is not something than can be done in a matter of days, not even months in most cases. It’s going to take time, lots of time. * Do practice Patience! I know it’s not one of my virtues either and it’s really hard to put into practice, but to save your sanity, try to be patient! * Do understand in the beginning you will be suffocated with so much information and resources your head will hurt (that’s where the Information Overload headache comes from) and you will not know which direction to take first. You’ll just be spinning your wheels if you try to go off into 20 different directions at once. Remember, concentrate on one thing at a time! * Do use your best judgment when weeding through all of the information. Throw away the obvious hype and keep what you feel is resourceful and useful. * Do make it a goal to accomplish one task each day. Later when you can handle it add one or two more tasks. Progress slowly. * Do look for free resources, there’s plenty out there on the internet to help you build and promote your business. There’s also a lot of hype and misinformation and just plain bad information, so definitely use number 4. * Do join some good internet marketing forums. You will find a lot of advice and tips on how to promote your business. Many people there are also “newbies” and you can bounce ideas off of each other. Many will post what has worked or hasn’t worked for them. Learn from the internet marketing experts, they were in your shoes at one time, benefit from their experiences. * Do file and organize the information you receive for retrieval later on. Organize your email by creating folders to keep information categorized and easy to find. Keep a log in Microsoft Excel with all of your affiliate ID’s, affiliate URL’s, and memberships. * Do learn some basic HTML code. This will make it easier for you to change, delete, and make any additions to your website. If you don’t know how to add a link to your website then how will you exchange links with other websites to increase your search engine rankings. Go to http://www.htmlgoodies.com and take their basic HTML tutorial. Read my article titled “Why You Should Learn HTML” on my Articles and News page at http://www.profitfromhomebiz.com * Do realize that it’s going to take a lot of work and time to establish your business. Especially, a business on the internet. It’s not an auto-pilot business. You will probably spend more hours working at this business than you would a regular 9 to 5 job. * Chances are you are new to internet marketing, so study and learn as much as you can before you just jump in. Know what to expect and be prepared. * Do realize that having an internet business is just like having a business in the “real” world. You need to have a plan, you need to advertise, and you must have a budget. * Do download the “30 Days to Success” E-book written by Stone Evans. You can find a free copy on my website at http://www.profitfromhomebiz.com. You will need to provide your name and email address which will subscribe you to my Home Business Tips Newsletter (which is full of internet marketing tips and articles), and then you can download the E-book. It gives you a day by day guide on how to promote your business online. It’s an invaluable tool! * Do believe in yourself and your abilities. Believe in your success! I divided this article into two parts so you would not fall asleep trying to read the whole article at once. Part 1 of this article has covered the DO’s for the internet marketing newbie. Part 2 of the article will cover the DON’Ts. Posted: Sunday 9th January 2005, 11:07 AM by: Jeff Palmer There are thousands of web sites, books, CD-ROM's, cassette tapes and various other forms of communication devoted to the topic of Internet marketing. The majority of these sites profess to offer "secret strategies" and "killer tactics" which promise to increase your chances of having success on the Internet. Of course you must fork over your hard earned cash for these wonderful pearls of wisdom. (Many of which turn out to be nothing more than pyramid schemes and other scams) With all of these so called experts lining up to take your money and fill your head with dreams of making easy millions you may find it difficult to filter out the facts from the fiction. I will take the unenviable role of fact giving, bubble burster and tell you flat out, "There are no secrets to successful Internet marketing!" Let me repeat myself, I said, "There are no secrets to successfully Internet marketing" Successful marketing, whether its online or off, requires careful planning and a lot of hard work. And no amount of marketing will ever meet with success if the product being marketed is a bad one. This is especially true of web sites, which carry the remarkable distinction of the almighty back button. I know this from first hand experience with companies that have spent ridiculous amounts of money to market web sites which were basically unusable. Now that your dreams of sailing around the ocean sipping margaritas, while an Internet cash machine deposits six figure sums into your bank are thoroughly dashed, lets explore some of the common issues associated with true Internet marketing success as well as a few of the many misconceptions. The same principles that govern off-line marketing practices apply to online marketing. Research, Planning, and Analysis. Research: Determine what makes your product or service stand out from the crowd. What do you offer that the competition doesn't? How do your prices compare to others in the market? What features of your product are one of a kind? All of this information will help in designing your web site to reflect a unique selling proposal. A unique selling proposal answers the customer's question, "What's in it for me?" Gather all the information possible that answers this question and use it in planning your web site. Planning: Develop a marketing strategy for your web site. Are you selling merchandise online? Are you advertising a service? Who are your customers? You must determine exactly what it is that you want your website to accomplish. Example: If your web site is focused on making it easier for potential customers to learn about your services, focus your attention on offering as much information about your services as possible. Price comparisons of your competition, directions to your business location, contact information, testimonials, etc.,are a good place to start. Plan your web site around a central goal. Analysis: So your web site is up and running, you have developed a marketing strategy and people are interested in your product. Now its time to figure our what is working and what isn't. This aspect of marketing your web site can be one of the most difficult to understand. This goes well beyond simply counting the number of visitors to your site. It requires analyzing the habits of those who travel to your site. Determining what features of your site compel visitors to purchase your products, what features turn visitors away. It is important to analyze every single feature of your web site, from the sales copy to the navigation. You must understand how every feature of your web site supports or detracts from your marketing success. Hopefully by now you realize that Internet marketing requires more than just an out-of-the-box solution. There is no magical formula to marketing online, and those who say otherwise should be scrutinized. The incredible variety of businesses online require individual marketing strategies and plans. A real estate web site should not be marketed the same way as one selling comic books. Any salesman would have a difficult time selling denture glue to a teen-ager, it just doesn't fit. And neither do one size fits all marketing plans. Target markets have to be considered. Planning, strategy and analysis must be carried out in order to achieve any kind of lasting success. Make your web site usable and you will gain success! Now, if you would like to send me a check for $30 for this "killer strategy" please feel free to do so. Otherwise, take this bit of information and file it in the "critically important" category. By usable, I'm talking about such web site considerations as working links, fast loading pages, limited use of images, animations and other "fluff" that will make most users hit the back button faster than you can blink a virtual eye. Fact: Most Internet users will hit their back buttons if a web page doesn't load in 20 seconds or less. Increasing the speed at which your web site loads greatly increases the likelihood that it will ever be seen. Submit your site to 100,000 search engines for just $29.95 !!! Beware of offers like this, the truth is there are only a handful of search engines that most people use to find things online. Concentrating your marketing efforts on these few search engines is much more effective than having your site listed in a million places that nobody will ever see Bear in mind that most of these multiple search engine submittal sites are profit driven, and the only one making a profit is them. Fact: Google and Yahoo are currently the major players in the search engine game comprising 54% and 41% of all Internet searches respectively.(Source: Comscore Media Metrix 05/04) There are several techniques to achieving higher rankings with these two search engines none of which are secrets. Read my article on search engine optimization for more information about this important topic. Number 1 Ranking in Google! Guaranteed! I have seen many web sites offering search engine ranking services, making claims like the one above, The truth of the matter is that it is impossible to guarantee a number one ranking with Google's free search engine submission. As I have stated previously there are a number of strategies and steps that can be taken to optimize your web site for search engine placement and achieve the highest rankings possible. Guaranteed results are a myth, it is possible to have the highest ranking in Google for search terms that aren't commonly used, but then, what's the point? Fact: It is true that you can purchase advertising space using the Google service called AdWords. Advertisements appear in the right hand column of Google search pages. Successful marketing of your business online requires time, effort and patience. There are no easy solutions. But, a fair amount of devotion and common sense can yield truly impressive results. Posted: Sunday 9th January 2005, 11:01 AM by: Richard Grady I am going to share a real secret with you this week. A secret that can be summarized in two words. A secret that ALL successful Internet marketers know and apply. A secret that really is the difference between the success and failure of your online business. Sounds pretty important huh? Well, it is and because of the fact that this is so important, I am going to share this secret with you for nothing - that's right - you can have this secret completely free of charge!! Ok, here goes..... The secret is: HARD WORK. Yup, that's it - hard work. Surprised? I am sure that many of you are. I am also sure that many of you are thinking 'Oh yeah, heard it all before'. Well, maybe you have heard it before but have you actually DONE IT? You see, this is often the only difference between those that are successful and those that want to be. More and more I see people looking for the easy option or the 'get rich quick' scheme. Let me tell you now, they don't exist and whilst the Internet can eventually provide you with a very comfortable lifestyle with very little work, it comes at a price and that price is usually two or three years of hard work. That means working long hours for little or even no reward. Let me give you some examples of the sort of thing I am talking about and see which category you fit into: Several of my websites are based around helping people find wholesalers for a range of products that can be resold on the Internet or anywhere else for that matter. Dealing with wholesalers and finding that elusive product takes a degree of skill and commitment and often time it will be necessary to phone or visit several suppliers before you find what you are looking for. At the end of the day, you should expect to have to put some effort in - after all, if it was as easy as just clicking on a website order button then everyone would be doing it right? Common sense you might think but I still get people emailing me after spending 15 minutes surfing through a couple of wholesale sites stating that they can't find what they are looking for and can I do the research for them? Talk about the lazy option. What is wrong with these people? They haven't even bothered to pick up the telephone, let alone drive to a wholesalers to see what stock is available that isn't listed online. It is as though they expect someone else to build their entire business for them and I am sorry but this is not going to happen. Let's talk about eBooks. Over the years I have promoted numerous different eBooks and other info-products and I am very careful to review every single product before making any mention of it in my newsletter or on my websites. I want to be sure that if I put my name to a product, I know that it contains quality content that will help the reader improve their online business or generate an income. Because of this, it is extremely rare for me to get refund requests on products I have recommended but of course, from time to time, it does happen. This is fair enough and there can be many reasons why someone may not be happy with their purchase but you know the reason that really irritates me? It is when someone requests a refund a couple of hours (or even minutes) after making their purchase and states that they have read the eBook and the ideas contained within won't work. In 99.9% of cases, this translates as 'It all looks like too much hard work and I can't be bothered....' The fact is that the majority of methods of earning a living online will be hard work - of course they will - do people really think that they are going to buy an eBook that will provide them with the knowledge to earn $100,000 a year for doing NOTHING? I wonder sometimes and this kind of attitude often leaves me staring at my computer screen with my jaw hanging down because I can't believe that anyone can really believe that they are going to get the rewards without the effort. When I started my online businesses, I would work 15 hour days, 7 days a week for several months at a time. I was rarely away from my PC and this went on for two or three years. Nowadays I work considerably less but if I am developing a new product or site I can easily put in a 60 - 70 hour week. Ask any successful online marketer and they will tell you the same. So which category do you fit into? Are you committed to working your butt off for a few years to establish your online business or do you expect to sit back and hope that it all happens around you while you get on with your real-world life? If you are in the second category I am afraid you are going to be very disappointed. If you are in the first category then I have every respect for you and you are exactly the type of person that can make a superb life for themselves based around an Internet business. One person that is most definitely in the first category is my friend, Andre Chaperon. Andre turned his back on the 9 to 5 rat race in October 2003 (just over a year ago) and has been building his online business ever since. I met Andre earlier this year and he is a 'doer' and knows the value of hard work. To celebrate the fact that he has managed to support himself for a year via his online efforts, Andre has released a report on affiliate marketing for his customers and subscribers. The report runs to 29 pages and will help you to understand how to successfully promote affiliate products. Andre has agreed that my readers can have a copy of the report for free too, so please feel free to grab your copy from this link: http://www.theaffiliatemarketingpocketguide.com/richard/ Copyright 2004 Richard Grady About The Author Richard Grady has been helping ordinary people earn online since 1998. Everybody claims to have the "inside knowledge" that will put you on Easy Street! Sounds familiar, doesn't it? That scenario is particularly painful for Internet beginners lacking the advanced researching skills of more seasoned Netizens. Nevertheless, is there a way for most inexperienced surfers to ascertain the initial merits of a particular offer? There is a general procedure to dissect and examine most Internet Marketing offers, in broad terms. The bulk of the offers can be classified into two categories: Dream Merchants and Web Specific Products. They have unique qualities that are very obvious once you study them. Follow me and I'll show you how to recognize each one. The Dream Merchant: I'm going to describe a real world, brick-and-mortar analogy to help you understand what the Dream Merchant sells. Let's say you walk into a retail outlet and the sales clerk mentions an idea that's going to make you rich! He sounds very excited and full of enthusiasm! He then continues to tell you all the benefits you'll get from the "great idea." Curiously, every time you ask him what it is, he never gives you a strait answer! He continues to pump you up while never revealing what it is he's selling. By now, your expectation is at a fever pitch; you gotta have it! So you corner the silver tongued sales clerk and ask him, point blank. He then produces a little book and informs you that it contains the "great idea" and it will cost you $100! You pay for the book and he quickly scampers out the door with your money. As you open it, it says: Do to the next guy what I just did to you! I know the above scenario is rather simplistic but it does occur all the time on the Web. That kind of business is selling you a dream! The dream is the product! You must continue to sell the dream to the next guy. Do you want to become a Dream Merchant? I don't think so! Beware of any company that requires an up-front investment to become an affiliate member. They pump you up with dreams of big money and the good life. Then the pressure starts for you to purchase all kinds of products from them. Some of the items are ordinary household supplies; quite mundane! Let's face it: When was the last time you heard anybody getting excited about dishwashing liquid? Web Specific Products: As you investigate online business opportunities I'm sure you've become aware of needs that are specific to Web based businesses. No matter what a Website is selling, its owner will purchase some items that are necessary for doing business on the Internet. Another thing about selling Web business specific products is that you are, in fact, selling a product. That is such a comforting thought! There is a basic demand for your product and it doesn't matter if your family or friends buy a heap of them! The list of Web specific products is endless, here are a few: Domains: You gotta have a name! Hosting: Every Web business needs a home. Website Design: Build and decorate your home. Writing: Fill your home with content. Copywriting: Write about your product and make it sell! Images: Let folks see what it looks like. The products above are the most basic items an Internet centered business needs. A name for its business and a place to call home; the ability to do a written presentation with images. You can't go wrong selling any of those listed products. The competition will be great but you'll have an endless supply of new customers. The following products are of a secondary nature. I'm including them because they will gain importance as we go into our Broadband future. As a matter of fact, most will be considered a necessity! Some are already widely used but will have new features when implemented for Broadband. Audio: When visitors hear your voice it lets them know you are a person, not just a Website. Video: So much better! You can present products, lessons, courses. Video is going to be big! Scripts: A great way to build an Opt In list and discover the buying habits of your visitors. Scripts can be used in so many ways to enhance your visitor's experience. AutoResponders: Follow up to the initial customer contact is so important. A Sequential AutoResponder is a must for doing business on the Web. If you haven't already, get one! Of course, there are many more Web specific business products. Most are connected with promotion and advertising. Some that come to mind: Traffic exchanges, message boards, linking automation applications, turnkey website packages, just to name a few. When all is said and done, you're the only person that will make the decision about your business choice. However, if you are more comfortable selling a real product that fulfills a real need, the list is endless! The Web is so young it guarantees the supply of new customers will continue for many, many years to come. by Francisco Aloy (C)2004 Francisco Aloy About The Author Francisco Aloy is the creator of The Newbie Business Guide. This report is not a commentary on the quality of all free marketing programs. We agree some do work. This report provides an alternative to the "long term" usage requirement necessary in order to find the free "working" programs. It's purpose also is to help eliminate the "seeming" reluctance of free signups to upgrade. It is a way to virally market and to help eliminate long waiting periods when trying to get sales while using free marketing tools found online. 1. You Must Ask Advice Before Utilizing Free Tools. You might be surprised what you find out and the secrets that you can learn. Asking advice instead of jumping right into freebee land (to market online) is the smart way to begin your online career. You Must Read and Research Options On Your Own Listening to advice and believing what you hear are two different things. Because of this, it is also advisable to research the difference between paid and free alternatives online for yourself. After all, how do we really know who we can believe? While some marketers have used a strong combination of free and paid advertising to build their entire self sustaining businesses, many a well meaning entreprenneur has naively utilized an archaic outdated free service and found themselves going around and around in an endless circle with little or no results. This time wasting activity can be completely avoided by being kind to yourself and getting the facts.. 3. You Must Consider Reselling Products that Teach Some of the Alternative's to None Productive Freebee Marketing. In this way you can kill two birds at once, not only will you learn of alternative free marketing techniques that work much better then tradition free online marketing, but you will also kickstart a very lucrative income quickly, and eliminate free hosting problems if you can focus your efforts. All in one packages online offer a possible solution, and you can get started with your ONLY existing $25 and never pay another cent. Various Hosting Companies today offer affiliate programs to their hosting customers. You get hosting, products to sell, and more professional free ways to advertise when you take advantage of one of these alternative products. You can actually consider these packages "all in one" online businesses. Sell just three of these packages and your "hosting business" is free. You could accomplish the feat within one month if you make sure your first month is dedicated only to selling this service. Since a battle plan is given right at the start this shouldn't be too difficult. Especially if you're one to follow step by step instructions. Let be put that myth to rest right away. This has not been my experience nor the experience of anyone I have come in contact with through my online endeavours. You need to give yourself at least a year to make an online business work and budget your money accordingly. Too many times I see people ploughing a wad of cash into their businesses and again, expecting instant riches. New marketers also make the mistake of thinking that one marketing strategy will do. Of course some avenues will produce more than others but I have found the best way is to adapt a broad based approach to your online marketing. That means spreading your time and resources over several different methods. I will attempt to outline in this text everything I feel you need to be doing consistently to make a success of your online business. Again I MUST point out that you need to persist is this strategy and spend your money wisely. It amazes me the amount of people who drop out after the first month or two. What do they expect, miracles? You wouldn't ditch an offline business after a month so why would you expect an online enterprise to be any different? If you fail to plan then you plan to fail. Bottom line is, targeted visitors = sales. This is definitely a numbers game and obviously the more targeted visitors you send to your website the more money you make. The concept is simple but you need to maintain a healthy focus to ensure that you stick this out for as long as it takes to make a profit, and progress to financial freedom online. Here are the methods I use to send daily visitors to my sites: 1)Build Your List It's true what they say that the money IS in the list. Most successful online marketers have large lists of targeted prospects that they can send their offers to on a regular basis. Anyone new to this business should begin to build this list immediately. You have to start somewhere and it takes time but it is certainly worth your while to begin now and develop a lasting and trustful relationship with those list members who eventually will feel comfortable in purchasing your recommendations. When trust grows this targeted list will become a virtual money tree and make you cash at will. Some marketers are able to makes $1000s sending an email to their list, which takes little more than a few minutes to write. Can you see the power in this method? I use a couple of different methods, online forms at all my websites encouraging prospects to add their name and email addresses plus I also purchase many of my addresses from other companies that can send me 1000s of emails for affordable prices. These addresses are spam free and can grow my list a lot quicker than I could ever do from my own websites. I have set up some tutorials here for companies that will send you targeted visitors: http://www.pluginprofitstraining.com/listopt.html http://www.pluginprofitstraining.com/listmedia.html 2)Pay Per Click search engines. Over the years I have used PPCSEs to send 1000s of visitors to my sites. This is a fast track way to drive traffic to your sites. You can be up and running and getting hits in minutes. I use http://www.overture.com, http://www.findwhat.com, and http://www.7search.com. These are three of the most popular but there are many others which you can find here: http://www.payperclicksearchengines.com/ I suggest you use Wordtracker to accumulate as many TARGETED keywords as you can. The more targeted keywords you collect the more visitors you get. The idea is to ensure that you are paying less for visitors on a monthly basis than the sales you make. 3)Google Google.com/ads/">Adwords Google adwords is similar in principle to PPCSEs in that you pay for your visitors. I suggest you use Wordtracker to accumlate 1000s of keyword phrases. 4)Article Submissions Submitting topical articles is one of the most affordable and at the same time effective marketing strategies I know of. For more info and the resources to do this visit here: http://www.pluginprofitstraining.com/articlesubmissions.html 5)Regular Search Engines Yahoo, Google, and MSN send me as many visitors per day as any other strategy I use. It is highly recommended that you get started immediately to begin to build the online web presence of your website and thus your search engine rankings. I have done this mostly through a reciprocal linking campaign which has had a greater effect on my search engine rankings than anything else. I employ the use of Linksmanager to automate my links campaign for which I pay a monthly fee or you can set up your own links manager at your own site using Kevin Ocasio's excellent Reciprocal Manager. For affordable search engine submission software try Web Position Gold. Please note: This is a long term strategy, so it will take at least a few months of persistent action to see any results at all. 6)Forum Posting One of the greatest things that happened to me in my online career was being appointed moderator at one on the most popular online internet marketing forums. This has opened up more avenues and opportunities than any other strategy. I suggest you visit the popular, high traffic online forums daily and make it a point of sharing your experiences and giving your advice as often as possible. Get yourself seen! The thing about this method too is that you can have a link pointing to your site in the signature of each post you make. Posting at forums will send daily traffic to your site AND the visitors will be highly targeted. Here are two high traffic forums that I frequent: http://www.ablake.net/forum/ http://www.howtocorp.com/forum/ This one isn't high traffic yet but I will be there to answer your questions: http://www.home-business-tips-newsletter.com/forum/ In conclusion: I have been marketing online since 1998 and have tried 100s of different ways to drive targeted traffic to my websites. The above six strategies work, so I suggest you print them out and make the methods part of your daily marketing plan for the foreseeable future. If they can work for me then they WILL work for you. I wish you every success in your efforts. Someone who I *perceive* to know more about Internet Marketing Stuff than me. Usually, my thinking tells me that if they are making more money than me, I should listen to them. But consider this. How come some Internet Marketing Gurus do not even tell you what script they use to manage their affiliate program? Obviously this is an important ingredient in the Internet Marketing recipe. Of course it is, but they want to tell you how to get rich marketing their products. They will even sell you tools to help you with this. Consider this too. Internet Marketers first mail their joint-venture partners with their *new* product. After the joint venture partners have mailed their huge lists, they then offer the item to the rest of their lowly affiliates. What is Internet Marketing Sin? In it's simplest form, it is perpetrating an untruth. Once upon a time it may or may not have been true, but things have changed. The Internet is in a constant process of change and growth (like the Universe), and certain statements that once were valid and correct, no longer have meaning or value, or have less meaning or value to Internet Marketers today than they did a few years, or even a few months ago. Example of an Internet Marketing Sin Start a link exchange program in order to increase your search engine rankings. This is not as effective today as it once was. The reason? The search engines are filtering out certain pages as irrelevant. A real life example of a page getting filtered out is one that is named "links.html", and maybe even directories called "links" could be targeted in the future. This is just *one* example. I wander how many things we are doing which is at best is only a waste of time, and worse, is getting us banned and costing us money? How does Internet Marketing information become a Sin? The same way it does in any area of thinking. Example: For decades, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents have watched ads on TV which claim milk is good us. Also, the parents *teach* their children that milk is good for them without ever doing any of their own research on the matter. They accept what they see on TV as truth and never question the validity of these "milk is good for you" statements. It must be true, there was a doctor on TV telling me so and mum told me ever since I can remember. And so a sin is born. A belief based on an assumption without any investigation whatsoever. This sin gets passed down from generation to generation as absolute truth. Another example: Industrial-age thinking. Parents who were brought up in the industrial age believe in getting a nice safe secure job and working hard for 48 weeks a year for someone else so that they can retire in comfort. This sin is is still being passed down from parent to child. It is also being taught in schools as part of an education program. It must be the way to go, everybody mocks me if I think something else which opposes this. In the same way, someone who got into Internet Marketing years ago could be perpetrating information which is simply not relevant today or maybe never was relevant. The information only served to waste our precious time, vacuum clean our wallets and line the pockets of the perpetrator. These people might have published a book or started some kind of service on the Internet. The book or service is being plugged by thousands of affiliates who recruit even more affiliates. This is how sins, errors in thinking, false beliefs or whatever else you want to call them get passed along the the Internet Marketing Community. Differentiate between the true and the false On the Internet, seven generations is not like seven human generations. Information passed on seven times, seven levels deep is seven generations. Just because someone permission markets you with some new tool which will explode your Income, search engine rankings or traffic, does not mean that it will work for you today. Hell, join their affiliate program and spread the sin one more generation. Recruit others who will recruit others and help you spread the sin. Conclusion Reading up-to-date search engine books is a step in the right direction, as is lurking around good webmaster and SEO forums. There you can ask questions about particular products and get feedback from those who have walked the path before you. Posted: Saturday 8th January 2005, 8:32 AM by: Isaiah Hull If you have read any internet marketing resource ever created, you have no doubt seen simple, one sentence, pot-shot solutions to all of your problems: You will only be successful if you think you are successful. You will make money if you work hard. Think outside of the box. Content is king! . . .If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. How can this possibly help me, you think. These people are just crack-pots! They do not actually have any real help to offer me--just general advice, which really has no practical implications for me and for my business. This is exactly what I thought and this is now what I see newer marketers and affiliates saying. I was always skeptical of general advice. I thought success stories that ended with an exhortation to "work hard" and "make plans" and "think outside of the box" were just plain worthless. What I now know (what I learned as I slowly became more successful) is that this "common wisdom"--which I initially regarded as foolish and too unspecific--was actually the best advice available on the internet and it didn't even cost me money. These simple cliches make up the best possible over-arching structure of complex business and marketing plans. They arbitrate the decisions of the most successful internet marketers. And when marketers decide to be short-sighted and deny these cliches for quicker returns, they are smacked-down and brought to reality or ruin by the manifestation of these cliches. As someone who has received many brutal, unrelenting smack-downs from the Internet, I can verify this. So what is it about these cliches that give them such universal, lasting truth?--They ignore hype. They ignore nuance. They don't marry a fad. And most importantly, they are results-oriented. They don't give you the specifics. They tell you what to focus on--broadly--and allow you to find the best way to nuance, build, and strengthen that simple concept, which ultimately should to be your choice, anyway. Just think: if we all tried to occupy the same niches, optimize for the same keywords, and advertise on the same sites, then none of us would be making money (and this is actually why quite a few of us do not make money). If you create an ebusiness according to these simple cliches, you will not become wildly successful overnight. You will not find that silver bullet to turn everything around. You will simply create a solid, practical business with linear increases that achieves realistic outcomes and will one day--with enough work--become that profit-pulling empire you have dreamed of since day one. That's great. But how do I apply these ethereal parcels of "wisdom" to my real ebusiness?--Through structural adjustments and long-term planning, the two most important parts of building a successful, long-term internet business. Unfortunately, too many new internet marketers -- in their eagerness to see immediate results--refuse to plan anything. Instead, they rush forward, purchasing products and services and piles of nonsense that, no matter how good they are, cannot be useful unless implemented within a solid business plan. They get frustrated. They give up. They fail. Other internet marketers, weary of trying new plans, constantly pound away on unprofitable ideas that also will never achieve long-term results. They purchase thousands of clicks, impressions, and guaranteed visitors. They never remake the amount they spent on advertising. They get frustrated. They give up. They fail. They never sit down and create plans. They never follow up with those plans and revise them as they go. They make no structural adjustments to their businesses to reflect their successes and failures. They react to everything immediately or just stagnate altogether. But you are different. You will no longer do this. You know that content really is king. And that if you want to succeed, you really must work hard. You know that when you make a new product, you had better be thinking outside of the box or else you will be smacked-down by those stupid cliches that make you cringe whenever someone repeats them. So set goals and try to achieve them. Make your business results-oriented. Stop hinging your entire internet business career on a single marketing fad. Don't count your e-chickens before they hatch! . . .And most importantly of all, always remember: if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. One such system is currently free on his website: http://www.workathomerightnow.net. Posted: Saturday 8th January 2005, 8:20 AM by: Mal Keenan Every business is engaged in selling something, whether a product, service, information, or something else. And sales usually begin with sales leads. As an offline example, new insurance and car sales people are frequently asked to compile lists of their friends, families, acquaintances, and so on. This list is used then as a lead builder - something to get the ball rolling towards that first big sale. The online world is no different. Every for-profit web site needs a steady flow of internet marketing leads. A big part of any online marketer's job is to generate the leads that will ultimately be responsible for another sale. In particular, in the highly competitive online marketing arena, someone selling products and services to other marketers will need a steady flow of fresh internet marketing leads to fuel their sales. Selling to internet marketers is a tough market segment to compete in. New products and services are released at an amazing rate. These new products and services are sometimes driven by new technology, other times by changes in market conditions or search engines, and still others are variations of existing products. Some of these products are themselves designed to help capture internet marketing leads! There are several basic ways to capture new leads online. The most commonly recommended method is to build an email list. There's an old direct marketing axiom "The money is in the list", and this has held true on the internet as well. Email marketing may not work as well as it used to, due to spam filtering, but that's not to say it's not effective. After all, other than your time, it's free to send, and response rates for email that does reach the intended recipients have remained steady. The theory of this type of internet marketing leads generation is that an email list works as the first part of a funnel system, whereby subscribers get some incentive to sign up for the list. It may be a free product, program, or report, or some other incentive t will then "funnel" responsive customers to your main products and services. Other common lead generation techniques include using pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, adding information about a site, product, or service to an email signature file, and posting and answering questions on marketing related forums. Just think, for someone selling to other marketers, what better free way is there to generate internet marketing leads than posting in forums where other marketers "hang out"? Whatever the lead generation techniques a marketer uses, the most important thing to remember about finding internet marketing leads is this: to be effective, they must be targeted. This means that the leads you generate must be generally interested in the product or service you offer. For an extreme example, it probably wouldn't make sense to try to generate leads for a knitting product on a site that is football-related. The target audience of a football site isn't generally going to be interested in knitting products. As you begin to build your marketing-related web business, be sure to plan a good internet marketing lead strategy from the outset. It shouldn't be an afterthought that you'll take care of someday - Give it a lot of consideration early on. Do they have some magical power that you don't? Would you like to quickly get that power? In a recent interview for the List Crusade program, T. Harv Eker revealed what he called the Millionaire Mindset-which gives extremely successful Internet marketers and offline entrepreneurs what seems to be an "unfair advantage." (Note: To access T. Harv Eker's complete audio interview for fre^e, see end of article) Harv is the author of the best-selling book, SpeedWealth, as well as several highly-acclaimed courses such as The Millionaire Mind Intensive, Life Directions, Wizard Training and Train the Trainer. He is also the producer and trainer of the world-famous Enlightened Warrior Training. He went from zero to millionaire in only 2-1/2 years using the Speed Wealth principles he teaches. He shows you how to instantly rid yourself of limiting beliefs that have stopped you from accumulating wealth in the past. According to Harv, your subconscious mind may actually be holding you back from the success you want in Internet marketing and in life. The subsconscious is much more powerful than your conscious mind. It's like an ice berg, most it is beneath the surface, and that's usually what sinks ships. Ideas and misconceptions you formed as a child can affect your life right now. If you believe that money is evil or that money is hard to get, then your success will be limited. Even though you go through the motions with your web page, email marketing and other marketing tasks, you'll always fall short on something that is critical to your success. You mind will automatically stop you just like a thermostat turns off the heat at a certain point. Harv revealed 4 easy actions you can do today to change your money thermostat and gain a millionaire mindset right now. 1) Stop blaming. You must take absolute responsibility for every result in your life. If you didn't cause it that means it's out of your hands. If you did cause it then you can change it and get a different result. What an empowering concept. 2) Stop complaining. When you complain you are focusing on the problem. The Universal Law of Attraction states that what you focus on expands. So if you focus on what you don't want, what do you think you'll get? 3) Use the power of intention. Take your current goal and double, triple it, or even quadruple it. For example if you want to make an extra $2000 a month from your website, raise your goal to $8000. According to Harv, the Universe usually gives you only what you ask of it. You'll probably find that the higher goal will spark your enthusiasm and energy and make it much easier to accomplish. 4) Bless that which you want. If you see someone with a fancy car, say "Good for him!" Don't use your key to scratch it as you walk by like a lot of jealous low brow people may do. If someone you know gets a promotion, congratulate him. This secret alone will cause money and wealth to start flowing to you effortlessly. The more you practice these Millionaire Mindset secrets, the more you'll discover that you too will experience dramatic success and your income from Internet marketing will skyrocket.
